When Secondhand Serenade’s “Awake” played Amy and Ben through their first dance as a married couple, they had no idea the impact that the song would prove to have on the rest of their lives.

After their wedding, Amy and Ben welcomed Remi into the world. She was diagnosed with Down syndrome among other health complications which  kept her in the hospital. Their family found strength and hope again in “Awake” as they listened together in the hospital every night. After losing their child, Amy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in her arm that eventually forced her to have the arm amputated. Once again, “Awake” kept her strong and fearless.

Today, Amy and Ben have four children, each having overcome their own personal mountains. Throughout the many years, “Awake” has remained their soundtrack – guiding, strengthening, and pushing them through each day.

When John Vesely of Secondhand Serenade heard about Ben and Amy’s journey, he was moved. Through HiNOTE, Amy’s brother and sister-in-law had John perform the very song that, in Amy’s own words, has “carried [them] through life.” Secondhand Serenade’s uniquely personal performance of “Awake” not only left Amy and Ben speechless, but gave them the strength that they needed in a way that they never could have imagined before.
